Travel during the so called “shoulder seasons” are, in my opinion the best times to travel. Not only are tickets and hotel stays more affordable to many popular destinations, but there are usually less crowds before and after the summer holidays.
Here are some fun places to get out and see during the Fall/Winter season:
Less expensive flights and the summer crowds are gone. Enjoy the upper 60’s -70 degree weather for Fall. All the history and grandeur of Europe , but less of the fuss and price 🙂 Check out UNESCO World Heritage Site Jeronimos Monastery and the Tower of Belem.
Beach, Sand and 80 degree temps from October to March. Why not?
Asheville, North Carolina
A personal favorite of mine. The changing fall foliage makes for a beautiful backdrop. Check out America’s castle, the Biltmore Estate for a day of living like the Vanderbilts, local wineries and spa time at the Grove Park Inn. FYI, sitting in a rocking chair at the Grove Park Inn with wine in hand and special someone next to you is priceless. 😉
Germany turns into a fairy-tale in the winter. I love to visit the Christkindlemarkts for mulled wine, tasty treats and handmade crafts. It is truly a magnificant experience. Check out the Christmas market in Cologne which set up in front of the Cologne Cathedral and is a spectacular sight.
Hong Kong, China
Warm Temps, plenty of sightseeing and shopping. Hong Kong has lots to keep you busy while you explore a new city. You must check out Tien Tan Budda on Lantau Island and high tea at the Peninsula Hotel.
