Recently diagnosed with gestational diabetes, I have been looking for a way to eat healthier. I stumbled upon a coupon for 30 bucks off a box from Hello Fresh. To be honest, I have been curious about these new meal delivery programs recently. I was getting tired of the same old spaghetti and taco dinners. I needed some fresh ideas.
First off, I was very impressed by the packaging that it arrived in one Wednesday afternoon. Inside the box were an insulated liner with 2 blocks of ice, meats and 3 perfectly packaged and labeled boxes for the 3 different meals that I chose beforehand from their website. The box also contained large recipe cards with all ingredients listed and step by step picture instructions on how to make each dish. I am no chef, so these were very easy to follow but different from the norm dishes. Furthermore, with the perfectly portioned meals, it is hard to overeat which is another problem that I occasionally have :).
I have loved each one so far and I am about 3 boxes in. After downloading the Hello Fresh app, it was even easier to keep up with the deliveries and choose what I wanted each week.
There are 3 types of boxes to choose from:
- Classic – Boxes with 3 meals for 2 people with all ingredients and there is a mixture of vegetarian, meat and fish recipes to choose from. This is the one I went with. The regular price is $60 per box.
- Vegetarian box – 3 meals for 2 people with all of the above except meat. 🙂 This box is the same price.
- Family box – serves 4 people (2 adults and 2 children) in either choice of classic or vegetarian. Each family box is $105.
Overall, the food is good and fresh. The recipes are easy to follow and I didn’t need anything more than salt, pepper and olive oil to add. Furthermore, it took less than an hour to prepare and cook each meal. I say it is a win, win!
FYI, none of the meals caused my blood sugar to spike and I was able to eat as much as I wanted.
