Soon I will be moving away from NYC so my sister, Briana, has been urging me to experience a few things I never seemed to get around to. Since I’ve never known her to make a poor recommendation, I reserved a table at Ladurée in Soho. Let me tell you, it was FABULOUS!
Ladurée is a Parisian boutique restaurant and tea room that happens to only have 3 locations in the U.S. So of course, the place looks almost MAGICAL. Inside is decorated with candles, chandeliers, Victorian furniture and blue velvet couches. There is also a large garden area where we sat outside under the shade of pretty plants and trees. Their teas are wonderful and they are known for their invention of the macaroon with a ganache filling. With recipes dating back to the 20th century and flavors like Rose Petal, Orange Blossom, Liquorice, Vanilla Pecan, and Pistachio…..how could I not love this! The macaroons are very rich and bursting with flavor so I can only enjoy one or two at a time. Their pastries look and taste amazing and I hate that I haven’t even tried the chocolate (which surely is another divine experience).
Ladurée teatime is between 3:00-5:00 pm. You choose a tea, 3 macaroons, 2 finger sandwiches, a croissant, and a dessert. Also because my dear friend and I had not eaten lunch, we shared an item from the lunch menu.
My tea choice: Thé Mille et Une Nuit – a Chinese green tea, both sweet and spicy, blending rose, orange blossom, and pepper
Macaron choice: Caramel, Lemon, and Coffee
Finger sandwiches: Salmon
Croissant: Traditional Croissant (because they were out of Chocolat)
My dessert: Saint Honoré Rose Framboise – puff pastry, choux pastry, light rose petal cream, raspberry compote, fresh raspberries and rose water whipped cream
Our extra lunch item: Mini Burgers Végétariens – mini burgers with spinach, dried tomatoes, button mushrooms, candied red onions and sheep’s cheese from Pyrénées, served with Ladurée Pommes Frites and Sucrine Lettuce
*Absolutely the best veggie burgers I’ve ever had!! It is not made into a veggie pattie, which I believe is what makes it so good.
If you’re ever in Manhattan, I highly recommend a visit to Ladurée. Whether it’s to dine, enjoy teatime, or just to pick up a box of macaroons this place is worth it.
